Homemade Baked Falafel

A healthy way to eat falafel!
It’s super crispy and goes well with a big bowl of green salad & tahini sauce.

There are two types of people in Berlin. One eats döner, other eats falafel. The second one is probably vegan and falafel is a great choice since it’s the most delicious, budget-friendly street food that can be found in every corner in Berlin. BUT, it might hurt your stomach after eating because it’s fried in poor quality oil. So, I prefer cooking a healthier version at home in my oven without frying.

I eat my falafel patties with a big bowl of green salad with tahini sauce instead of wrap. It’s healthier and goes well with all kinds of greens.

HOMEMADE BAKED FALAFEL

20 piece falafel patties

Ingredients

300g chickpeas, soaked overnight

2 red onions

3 cloves garlic

1 bund parsley

1/2 bund fresh coriander

2 tbsp olive oil

Salt

Ground black pepper

Cumin

1/4 tsp cinnamon

Method

1. Preheat your oven to 375 F.

2. Pour olive oil into a baking sheet and set aside.

3. In a food processor, combine all ingredients and process until the mixture is smooth.

4. Using your hands (or an ice cream spoon) shape the falafel mixture into small patties. Place them on your oiled baking sheet.

5. Brush the tops with a little more olive oil.

6. Bake for 30 minutes, then flip and bake 10 more minutes until both sides are golden brown.
